A popular Cycle Trail from our base in Napier visiting historic wineries, two local pubs and the Filter Room for  boutique cider & beer.
Allow 5 to 6 hours plus, a pleasant 39 km ramble along pathways and flat terrain.

TRAIL 505: PUKETAPU LOOP

A very popular Family Trail cycling the Tutaekuri Riverbanks on way to the quaint village of Puketapu.

Optional: Day Light Saving excursion from 3pm to 7pm.  stop of and have dinner at the pub!

The terrain is quite flat. Puketapu Loop is 25km (29km if you visit Silky Oak Chocolates).

On the way to Silky Oak Chocolates you can visit  Otatara Pa Site – great views,  Pottery, Wood Artists & Nevaria Lavender.  On the way back to base either ride the pathway from EIT to Guppy Road or  call into the Duke of Gloucester  –  a family friendly pub with an amazing outdoor area to sit and relax in the shade

This wine growing area is situated West of Hastings, famous for its deep gravely soils laid down by the old Ngaruroro River after the huge flood in the 1860’s. 80% of the land is planted in red grape varieties, the remaining 20% is white grape varieties.

Discover Sileni Estate unique gourmet cellar which includes a selection of Fine New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oils produced locally by The Village Press. On route you will discover numerous world renowned handcrafted award winning wines at the cellar doors – where you will be welcomed by passionate, enthusiastic cellar door staff. A surprise at  Abbey Cellars  and Trinity Hill who make beer on site.

Drop off by coach at Sileni Estate, the start of your cycle adventure. 28kms from Bike About Tours base Cycle one way – joining the Tutaekuri Riverbank Pathway to Awatoto turn right and follow the Pathway beside the sea to Clive and East Clive to Black Bridge.

Explore the village of Haumoana on the way to #Beach House Wines, Elephant Hill Estate Winery, Clearview Winery and #Te Awanga Estate (formally Kim Crawford Wines) – enjoy spectacular  coastal views.  Cycle through the village of Te Awanga to Wool World and Clifton Bay Cafe at the road end beside the sea. On the way back visit Haumoana Farmyard Zoo and/or the British Car Museum.
